Quakers Unveil Album, Existence

February 14, 2012 § Leave a comment

Hip-hop gem harvesters Stones Throw—who brought us The Stepkids—have introduced a new name to the roster: Quakers.

As in earth-quakers; not peace-mongers, or oatmeal.

Quakers is a 35 person collective rooted to a triumvirate of producers, including Geoff Barrow, though he’s opting for his Fuzzface alias here, plus Portishead engineer 7-Stu-7. They link up with Australian producer Katalyst—whose Deep Impressions was one of 2011’s overlooked LPs—and personally invited dozens of top-notch collaborators. Some of the names to make that list: Aloe Blacc and old school heroes Prince Po, Booty Brown and Dead Prez, with Stones Throw newcomers to boot.

Fitta Happier” is the first cut to be posted, and has Guilty Simpson and MED spitting over a tinny, pep-band redux of Radiohead’s “Optimistic” and “The National Anthem.” Look for this monster, 41-track album next month. The self-titled LP drops March 27th.
